Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving came early. I woke up at 5 and thought about the day.

How many times do we wallow in our own mire and not really notice what we have around us? We live like kings and queens compared to 100 or so years ago. Some things aren't so good but many things are.

We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity. We have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. They haven't.

We have been consumed with the idea that we did it all. We have become too proud to pray to the God that made us, that is the author of all things in this world. We've forgotten God. God gave us life and keeps the planets spinning. We become selfish, un-content, and miserable when we leave things up to ourselves.

I want to give thanks to God today, Thanksgiving 2008. We did not obtain all that we possess all by ourselves. The might of our hands did not secure it for us. A little humility is in order on this one day of the year.
